TinyEYE.com-Earth Hour (Saturday)

“Earth laughs in flowers”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello Everyone,

Have plans for Saturday night? Why not start with turning off the lights. On Saturday, March 28th at 8:30 pm local time, there is an election: EARTH vs. GLOBAL WARMING. You can vote for earth by switching off your lights for one hour – EARTH HOUR.

The fact is that earth is calling for help. In my mind, earth is no longer whispering but wailing for us to open our eyes to the scars and hidden poison that are destroying our world – the place that nurtures our existence. Earth is struggling to sustain itself. Earth sustains us. See the connection?

Sometimes when a problem or even a solution seems so monumental, it feels easier to do nothing and ignore all accountability. Can’t do that here.

I pledge to turn off my lights on for Earth Hour. I pledge to invite my neighbours to do the same.

If you need something to do in the dark, consider these ideas for Earth Hour:

1. Game night by candlelight

2. Surprise Supper – Have a finger food potluck. Keep everyone in the dark – guests will simply have to guess what they are eating.

3. Mediate or have nap.

4. Sit on the floor and tell campfire stories.

5. Go out for a walk by moonlight – maybe even a treasure hunt by moonlight.

6. Play “Where is the World am I” – describe something you would see or experience somewhere and have your peers guess where you are (in spirit).

7. Guess the Guck: Fun for kids – pass around one bowl at a time of different objects or food. i.e. peeled grapes for eyeballs, a bowl of spaghetti for brains…a common Halloween game but it great for time in the dark, too! If you want to clean it up a bit, put things from earth in the guessing bag (rock, grass, leaf, branch, fish,….real or toys).

8. Pledge a Promise to Protect: To say thank you to earth for all it gives us, pick something that your family will hold them self accountable for to help earth. i.e. recycle bottles, turn off water when brushing teeth, grow a garden…

9. Art Attack: Cover the floor with paper from the recycle box. Have fun painting in the dark. It will be a great surprise to see what everyone has done once the lights are on!

10. Talk about how blessed you are to have your sight because many people on earth are permanently in the dark because of blindness.

11. Officially vote: http://www.earthhour.org/home/
Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money.
